Professor Fireheart waited till all her students filed in. She watched them come in. When all the students were in their desk, she stood up from behind her desk.
"As this is the first Potions class of this semester, I will just go through my rules before we start. First of all, I will be known as Professor Fireheart. I also expect no chit-chat during class"
she said as she looked at two girls chatting away like blood thirsty bats. With a flick of her wand, a zip appeared on their mouth. Some students laughed. The girls looked at her, panicking. She then made the zips return to their normal mouth. They became quiet quickly. Professor Fireheart resumed her speech.
"I also expect you students to be careful. Potions is a serious thing!. Who knows: you may be trying to create an invisibility potion and end up making a potion that turns someone into a stormcloud!. One more thing, homework must be completed!. No saying 'my pet toad ate it' or 'my owl took it away'. Now, have I made myself clear?"
the class nodded. She brushed her fringe out of her eyes. She began the lesson.
"We will be doing, firstly, Boil Cure Potions. Please turn to page 153 of your page book to write what I am going to say. Listen carefully:
dried nettles
crushed snake fangs
stewed horned slugs
porcupine quills - to be added after taking the cauldron off the fire
If you will space yourselves out, placing your cauldrons on the burners and your ingredients on the surface to the left of your burner, I will write it on the board for you. Now, I don't want to give you too much help with this as it's your first lesson. I'd like to see what your capable of. If you turn to page 14 of your textbooks you will find the recipe.
She looked at the students with her piercing green eyes.
"Oh, before you start: I hope that you can all tell that the snake fangs you purchased in Diagon Alley aren't actually crushed. We must do this ourselves before adding them to the potion. I would advise that you get all the preperation done before you start mixing the potion as sometimes time is the most crucial factor. Adding an ingredient a few seconds too late, could end in disaster. Therefore, I would like you all to crush your snake fangs now, using a mortar and pestle. There are plenty over in my supply cupboard."
Professor Fireheart flicked her wand, opening a cupboard at the front of the class, which was stacked full of standard ingredients. The rarer and more dangerous ingredients were kept in a locked cupboard in her office.
